How to Reset the Tire Sensor on a 2003 Chevy Impala?
Having a car is a big responsibility. One of those responsibilities is maintenance to your vehicle. Routine maintenance include oil changes, tune ups , and tire care. There are many more but these are a few.I will be discussing tire maintenance in this article.
Low tire sensor
I remember the first time my tire sensor came on. I was riding down the highway and there was a glow from my instrument panel. The low tire sensor light had came on. I was panic stricken . I thought I had run over something and my tire was going down. I immediately stopped and checked for a flat. After I realized the tire was okay I filled it with air and got back in the car.My sensor light was still on. So I then called my sister who had an identical car ,but she had hers about one in a half years longer than me, so I considered her an expert when it came to things dealing with the impala. To my surprise she was clueless on how to reset the tire sensor. So I went to my book and found out how really simple it was to reset.
Resolving the problem
First check all four of your tires and put the correct amount of air in each tire.Make sure there isn't any damage or holes in any of your tires.Remember the tire pressure sensor comes on when one tire becomes 12 psi lower than the other three. After you have put the correct amount of air in each tire you can now reset the sensor. The sensor will not automatically go off without first being reset. These instructions can be found in the 2003 Chevy Impala owner's manual.
If the sensor comes on while driving stop immediately and check for damages. The tire pressure sensor isn't going to tell you which tire is low so it is necessary to check all four. Also don't reset the tire pressure sensor without first fixing the problem because this will cause the sensor to not work at all or work improperly.
I know because I reset mine and came out of my job to a flat tire.So I learned the hard way. Don't let that happen to you.
The tire monitor system can be reset very easily by following these simple steps.
- First scroll using the seek/scan up or down arrows until tire mon appears on the display.
- Next press the prev or next button to enter the sub menu.Reset will be displayed
- Lastly press the tune/display button to reset .A chime will be heard to verify the new setting and done will be displayed for one second.
The tire monitor pressure system is now reset. Now just drive your vehicle so the system can recalibrate the tire pressure on each tire.
Tire pressure is very important. You should never drive your vehicle with under inflated or overinflated tires. It is dangerous and you could have a blow out.You should also check your tire pressure once a month to make sure they are properly inflated. This will help with wear on tires and gas mileage, just to name a few incentives.Doing these things will help keep your hard earned dollars in your pockets.
